There is a lot more to paganism or traditional Earth-spirituality than you can find in popular publications, whether online or on paper. People of the Earth is a 9-week course exploring who we are, where we come from, and where we might be going, taught by one of the most experienced and knowledgeable pagan teachers in the country. It will leave you with a strong foundation from which to further develop your own practice.
Some of the topics that will be covered include:
- Our ancestral roots and the evolution of paganism
- The pagan traditions in the context of indigenous spirituality
- Root principles of pagan practice
- "Real" paganism – how to live an Earth-centered spirituality
- Origins and survivals of traditions
- Witchcraft as a form of shamanism
- Magic and the Invisible World
- Paradigms of the Sacred – animism, theism, "gods" and ancestor worship
- Cultural contexts, both ancient and modern
- Rituals & cycles of nature
- "The People of the Book" vs. oral traditions
- Spirits, fairies etc. – how "real" are they, how definable?
- Neopaganism and the quest for spiritual roots
This class is a good place to bring all the questions you've ever had about paganism but never had the opportunity to ask.
Andras Corban Arthen, spiritual director of the EarthSpirit Community, was adopted in 1969 into the traditional pagan practices of a Gaelic-speaking family from the Highlands of Scotland. A practicing witch for over 40 years, Andras has taught and lectured publicly about the pagan traditions throughout the U.S. and abroad since the 1970s. Beyond the pagan community, Andras serves on the executive committee of the Board of Trustees of the Parliament of the World's Religions, the oldest and largest global interreligious organization, and also sits on the board of directors of the European Congress of Ethnic Religions as its international interfaith liaision. He has been invited to represent the European indigenous traditions at interreligious conferences throughout the world. Andras lives with his family as part of an intentional community in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts.
